150 free animal softie patterns and tutorials

Lambkin tutorial from patternbee.com

What is a softie? A softie is, at its most basic, a simple stuffed toy. “Simple” means that softies are uncomplicated in design and easily and quickly made, requiring few construction tricks, frequently needing only one pattern piece (comprising front and back) with a few add-ons for decoration. Think of softies as something to be put together, stuffed, and decorated while a child takes a nap. Softies accommodate all sorts of different tastes and styles, from traditional to Japanese-inspired to steampunk. But most are cute as a bug’s ear.

Below is Made with Love: Crafting for a Cause‘s list of at least 150 free animal softie patterns and tutorials. They run from tiny to medium-size and are made of a range of materials, including fabric, felt, recycled sweaters, and socks. All are machine- or hand-stitched. (For softies that are crocheted or knitted, see our links list from one of our completed projects here.) We have concentrated on those postings and patterns where the product best fits the softie definition and which provide pattern pieces and some instructions. Where instructions are really minimal, we have marked this next to the listing.

As a crafting-for-charity group, we naturally hope you’ll consider creating something for a good cause — our Softies for Foster Kids project springs to mind, but there are many others serving worthy charities. But we also just want you to have a great time with these fun, easy patterns. See also our All About Softies page with techniques and tips for softie design and construction.
